Reproduction and Use Policies

The materials available on the Hooked on Los Gatos – Library and Museum History Project database were scanned from library and museum collections, as well as from the collections of other agencies and individuals.

Fair Use
The contents of this database are made publicly available by the organizations and individual owners for use in research, teaching, and private study. For such private and non-commercial purposes, you may reproduce a single copy (print or download) of materials from this Website without prior permission. Please use the following credit line: ȁ[Title and date of image], courtesy [name of contributing repository or individual], obtained from http://historylosgatos.org."

The collections available on this Website are available for limited use under this Fair Use policy. For all other uses, prior written permission from the owning institution or individual is required.

Copyright
Copyright protection is provided by laws of the United States to the creators of “original works of authorship” including literary, dramatic, artistic, musical and certain other intellectual works. This Website is such a work and is protected by copyright law.

Copyright has expired for all works published in the United States before January 1, 1923. Because of legislation passed in 1998, no new works will fall into the public domain until 2019, when works published on January 1, 1923 through December 31, 1923 will expire.

The nature of historical archival photograph collections often means that copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult or even impossible to determine. Please contact the library or museum if you have additional information regarding the copyright of images found on this Website.

Commercial Use
You must send an inquiry to the owning repository or individual for any activities beyond those described in Fair Use. The owner of the image is listed in the Repository field of the record attached to the image. Such uses include but are not limited to electronic or paper publishing, video production, exhibits, product presentations, interior design, advertising, or similar commercial purposes. Users assume full responsibility for any infringement of copyright and publication rights of reproduced materials. Proper credit must be given to Hooked on Los Gatos - Library & Museum History Project, and an accompanying logo will be provided.

Please send one complimentary copy of any publication featuring a library or museum image to the library, and one copy to the museum.
