In 1871, San Jose Water Company built a wooden flume along the east bank of Cats' Canyon in order to pick up water at Jones Dam above Alma and bring it to Los Gatos. Reconstructed in 1880, the flume provided a romantic walkway for lovers, although this practice was somewhat dangerous and was discouraged by Water Company officials. Encounters with wild cats and skunks were not infrequent. The three-mile long wooden flume was replaced by a galvanized steel aqueduct in 1935. BAK016
