Description	Dr. Robert P. Gober 1859 - 1943, pictured here (second from the left ) on a hunting trip, came to Los Gatos in 1884 and served as a "horse and buggy" doctor. He answered sick calls throughout the mountains, delivering babies and even performing emergency operations in lonely cabins, taking a door from its hinges to serve as a surgery table. More than once he was swept from his carriage while braving swollen winter streams to get to his patients. Dr. Gober was one of the 100 petitioners who sought to incorporate the town of Los Gatos in 1887, and he served as the Southern Pacific Railroad physician in Los Gatos for half-a-century. Dr. Gober was also president of the Mountain Spring Water Company, a member of the first board of health, a member of the Citizen's Committee for the Carnegie Library, and the son-in-law of John Bean.
