Description	This was the scene in the Tevis Clubhouse on Thanksgiving, 1917. Alternating chairs for men and women were placed at the ornately decorated table. The Tevis property was purchased by the Jesuits from the estate of Dr. Harry L. Tevis on April 13, 1934 for $85,000. Father Zacheus Maher was Provincial of the California Province of the Society of Jesus at that time. Nine hundred and fifty acres came with the purchase. Two hundred and twelve additional acres, left in accordance with the will of Dr. Tevis to Mr. Theobald, his superintendant, as a life estate, reverted to the Jesuits at his death. The purchase price included buildings, but no books in the library nor furnishings in the house. In 1934 it was estimated that Dr. Tevis' home had cost $300,000, with $150,000 expended on the gardens and more than $200,000 on the water system. Dr. Tevis had storage facilities for 11 million gallons of water. This included tanks on the hillsides and the lakes. Sixteen of the 27 miles of roads on property were oiled. Dr. Tevis bought the property from the Flood Estate (James Clair Flood, son of the bonanza king of Comstock Lode fame) in 1906 and lived there part of the time until his death in 1931. NVC002
