This 1887 photograph shows the Crandall & Rice warehouse, later sold to Judge R. R. Bell. Fred Crandall is seated in the buggy, and William Rice is leaning on the wheel beside him. Rice, born in 1821, was married to Eliza Jane Campbell Rice. They had one living son in 1888, having lost eight children, according to local newspaper articles. At far right is J. B. Waterman. Front of building reads, "Crandall & Rice - Wood, Coal, Brick, Lime, Ha?, Plaster, Hay, Grain & Etc." Building to right has partial sign showing - Studebaker and Carriages. Lumber is stacked in the rear of the "drive-through" warehouse. BER017
