Woman standing on railroad trestle above Los Gatos Creek, just south of town. The popular practice of "walking the rails" resulted in tragedy on at least one occasion. On January 23, 1926, Helen Dossee, age 11, and her sister Jane, age 9, were trapped on the trestle when the 3:00 p.m. passenger train from Santa Cruz bore down on them. To escape, they jumped 60 feet to the rocky creek bed below. Helen died, but Jane survived. The sad news was taken to their mother, Zoie Dossee, who worked as a saleswoman at Crider's Department Store. The girls had been out hunting berries. BRG021
